Mobile friendly web design is essential .As you might already be aware of Google`s latest algorithm that penalized the websites that were not mobile friendly. Web masters named it “Mobilegeddon” and it resulted in decreasing the ranking of non-mobile friendly webpages. So as mobile users has already surpassed desktop users, I am sure don’t want to keep mobile users out of your website and now another reasons Google will not let your website rank higher. It is time to think about providing users mobile first experience.

Unfortunately, many business owners don’t know much about creating mobile friendly websites and complexity involved.

Here we have collected few tips for business owners to make them more aware and knowledgeable on how to make website more accessible on mobile devices.

Tip #1: Making Separate Mobile Website is not Good Idea.

Not many years ago, we were used to develop websites for the “mobile web” where web designers were used to cut the parts of design and content to make it fit for mobile devices. However can we control what kind of content users want and making it different from desktop will give users sense of unfamiliarity as well. Another reason separate website for mobile devices is not a great idea. Perhaps it can also be penalized by Google due to having multiple two website with same content. So my advice is doing make separate web site for mobile users.

Tip #2: Always Use Responsive Design.

Responsive web designs can be used to create mobile friendly websites because it makes it possible for website developers to make adjustable web design. This adjustable website can fits itself according to the requirements of different screen sizes. It offers flexible approach to handle layout images and cascading style sheet media queries that detects visitors screen size and change accordingly.

Tip #3: Always Include a Viewport “meta tag”.

You must always provide meta tag information in viewport that render search engine to determine how content is scaled and sized. It is critical when you want to build the multi-device capability in your website. Without this information your website will not work well on a mobile device. This viewport meta tag tells your browser how the web page needs to be fit in the screen. Many different configuration types can be specified to fit in your viewport and control as per your needs.

Tip #4: Use YouTube Videos on your site.

In case you use lot of videos on your website, the way it can be viewed on mobile will be different and even sometimes difficult. You can solve it by putting it on YouTube and then embed the code with website as YouTube is already responsive and will provide the functionality you require. This will also save you from lot of steps that you may need to take to make it responsive.

Tip #5: Remove the default Zoom.

In many ways, Auto-zoom can mess up with your layout elements, especially for images, content and navigation. It results in their appearance in too small or too large in your web design layout. To solve this issue you must not forget to use viewport meta tags that will set up custom variables with in your content. Also ensure that tag is included in <head> HTML.

Tip #6: Always Use High-Resolution Images.

You may be familiar with instagram where we use high resolution images. These high resolution images are extremely important for your responsive website as well. These latest mobile devices supports high resolution images that require images to have double resolution as per required by desktop. If you use high resolution images on website it will create better view ability on retina quality screen.

Tip #7: Font Sizes and Button Size Matters.

When it comes to mobile devices, your font and button sizes matters a lot. We recommend the font size should at least be 14px. It may seem big to you but instead of having let users zoom too big to read content, you can make it easier for them to adjust your font size for maximum legibility. Only go smaller like 12 px on labels and forms.  The bigger buttons will be much better as it will reduce the chances that users will miss it or hit wrong buttons. You will find relevant guidelines online. Always make sure that you follow the advice when designing website for specific users.
